Sun Prairie Utilities staff were recently made aware that a phone call scam is circulating in the Sun Prairie area where the caller claims to be from the “utility” and wants the customer to verify their banking information to get a refund after overpaying their bill.
These calls are not from SPU employees. SPU staff will not call you and ask you to share your private banking information. SPU employees do, at times, call you to communicate utility information, but there will always be other methods of communication shared during the phone call, either mentioning more information at a specific location on our website, via email, or a letter mailed to your home.
If you receive a call like this, tell the caller you will get back to them and contact us at (608) 837-5500 to confirm who you were talking to before you share information.
Be vigilant and cautious with your private personal details. Always be certain of the source before sharing personal or financial information.
